Money making

How to earn GP at every stage, and what to spend it on.

Shops always buy for less than they sell, so you can't make money by trading back and forth. Money comes from hunting, gathering, crafting, quests and tasks.

Early game (levels 1–10)

  • Sell everything to Tobias: rat tails, spider silk, goblin ears and wolf pelts. Use "Sell all loot".
  • Do Tails for Tobias, Slime Science and Goblin Steel.
  • Fish trout and cook it. Cooked food saves you buying potions.

Mid game (levels 10–20)

  • Cyclops Eyes, Yeti Fur and Ectoplasm sell well to Sable or Hilda.
  • Board tasks pay well and every tenth pays double.
  • Mine gold and smith gem jewellery to sell.
  • Heartwood from the Elder Treant sells for 90 GP each.

Late game (levels 20+)

  • Drake Scales, Demon Horns and Void Pearls are worth a lot.
  • Treasure sells for good GP and does nothing else: pirates and smugglers drop rum, compasses, spyglasses, map scraps and strongboxes; the undead drop crowns, grave rings, cursed tomes, soul gems and (rarely) a Golden Skull; crystal creatures, golems and the Ashen Guard drop rough gems. Sell it to any trader.
  • Elites and world events drop extra loot and rarer gear. Fine, Rare and Epic gear sells for 1.8×, 3.2× and 6× the normal price.
  • On Gullwrack Isle, Temple Relics, Wyvern Scales and Magma Cores sell well, and the Tide Serpent drops a Tide Serpent Scale every kill.
  • Rift chests pay 500–4,500 GP and sometimes hold gear with a gem already set.
  • The Proving Pit pays in tokens, not GP, but its potions and runes save you a lot of shopping.
  • Finish region diaries: each pays GP once, up to 10,000 for a hard list.
  • Ashwing's hoard: 300–600 GP and a Dragon Heart (600 GP) per kill.

Raise your prices

  • Trading skill: every GP you trade trains it, and each level gives 0.2% better prices (up to 20%).
  • Haggler mastery: 2% better prices per rank.

What's worth buying

  • Your vocation's weapon upgrades first (see each vocation).
  • A House Deed (5,000 GP, Tobias): a home with a hearth, an alchemy table and a bank chest.
  • Bank your gold. Defeat costs 10% of what you carry.

Later on

  • Rogue's Ridge: bandit insignias, orc tusks and raptor parts sell well, and Warden Holt's board pays for culls.
  • The Cinder Keep: golem cores, wraith essences, fiend horns and void shards are the most valuable monster parts. Cinder ore, smelted into ingots, is worth even more.
  • Treasure trails and rare bosses: caskets and named bosses drop gear that sells for thousands.
