The Barrow

Three floors of the dead under Highmoor's standing stones, and a king at the bottom.

The Barrow is the game's first multi-level dungeon. Its mouth is among the standing stones on the hill north of Highmoor. Each floor is deeper and harder, and stairs join them. Defeat anywhere in the Barrow sends you back to Highmoor.

Floor 1: the Ossuary (levels 18–22)

Map and spawns.

The rooms are joined by narrow corridors. Pull monsters into a corridor so only one reaches you at a time. The stairs down are at the far end.

Floor 2: the Drowned Halls (levels 22–26)

Map and spawns.

The halls are long and dark. Healing runes are worth carrying.

Floor 3: the Throne of Bones (levels 26–32)

Map and spawns.

The Barrow King

  • 4000 health, attack 32, defence 16.
  • Grave slam: every 7 seconds he hits everything within 2 tiles for 1.5× damage. Melee fighters: back off when it's coming. Ranged vocations: keep 3 tiles away.
  • Enrage: below half health he attacks much faster. Save potions, runes and your strongest ability for this part.
  • He always drops the King's Seal for Highmoor's quests, 2000–3500 GP and often a hard clue scroll. He has a small chance of each of the legendaries Kingsbane, Crown of the Barrow, Wightbow and Sceptre of Bones.

Tips

  • Bank first. Highmoor has a bank chest and a waystone, so you can come straight back.
  • Elites with traits (see affixes) are common down here. A shielded regenerating Grave Knight is worth walking away from.
  • Your first kill of the Barrow King always drops at least a Rare.

Heroic

Once you've beaten the Barrow King, the Heroic Sigil by the Ossuary's way in turns all three floors heroic: tougher monsters, more XP and loot, and Heroic Marks. See Heroic dungeons.
