The Riftwastes
A broken land beyond the sky, opened by Skarnveil's fall, and the Unmade Spire at its edge.
The Riftwastes are for levels 60 to 75, the hardest place in the Emberwild. The way in is a tear in the sky at the top of the Shattered Peaks, next to Skarnveil's eyrie. It stays shut until you have defeated Skarnveil.
Wardens' Rest
Wardens' Rest is a safe outpost just through the tear, with a waystone, a forge, a fire and a strongbox (your bank).
- Quartermaster Ysra sells the new gear tier and buys loot.
- Archivist Maelis gives a chain of four quests and has a task board.

Some tips:
- Shard wisps slow you.
- Void stalkers are poisonous.
- Golems throw rocks and wyverns breathe shadow from a distance, so closing in doesn't always save you.
- Kill the hound alpha first, because its howl pulls the pack in.
On dark nights, the rare Riftborn Horror can appear on the shore or in the Wastes. It's level 70 and slams the ground around it. It drops the legendary cape Horror's Hide.
The Unmade Spire
The Spire stands in the north-east corner, with two floors:
- The Shattered Stair (70–73): unmade thralls, spire sentinels and void heralds. Sentinels hold their ground and shoot from range, and heralds slow you.
- The Crown (73–75): more of the same, and at the top, Vaelith, the Unmaker.
Vaelith is level 75 and the strongest foe in the game. She casts shadow from four tiles away and slams everything near her, and she attacks much faster below 40% health. Her drops include Unmaker, the Voidheart Staff, Riftsong, the Crown of the Unmade and the Spire Aegis. Defeating her earns the title the Warden.
Gear
The Voidsteel (Knight), Riftleather (Paladin) and Nullweave (Wizard) sets are level 62. Each has five pieces, and there are matching weapons (blade, claymore and halberd; longbow, arbalest and javelin; staff), a Voidsteel shield and the Null Orb. Every piece drops somewhere in the Riftwastes, and Ysra sells all of them, at a price. They can't be smithed. See Gear sets.
Quests, tasks and the diary
- Maelis's chain is Through the Tear, Hollow Echoes, Glass and Storm and The Unmade, ending with Vaelith.
- Her board has culling tasks for void stalkers, rift mages and glass harpies.
- The Riftwastes diary gives cheaper waystone travel here, then +3% and +5% XP in the region.
